Magic slippers

Presenting: a selection of lovely comfy looking potential wedding shoes for your consideration. If you're pernickety about not wearing leather like me, there is still a fair amount out there (see those marked (v)!), as well as some good dedicated shops like Vegetarian Shoes amongst others. That said, I do sometimes wish I could just buy a pair of shoes without worrying about whether they're leather or not. I have fallen in love with the turquoise ones bottom left for example, but alas they're made of suede.

The shoes I'll actually be wearing to wed my beloved are the two tone brogues top left, I bought them in the summer and they're really comfy, and generally awesome. The options did befuddle me somewhat though. The thing is, once you've made a decision, even about something relatively minor like a pair of shoes, it's soooo nice not to have to think about it anymore. Is it just me that really doesn't enjoy shopping as much as I sometimes convince myself I do? I have a tendency to give up attempting to buy something if presented with too much choice, honestly, this happened in the biscuit aisle of Sainsbury's the other day. I really am a terrible shopper, so it's a miracle I have any shoes at all. And they're a tick on the ever expanding wedding to-do-list, hurrah!

Getting married wasn't really in my plan, so tying the knot at 23 was somewhat unexpected, but awesome! In the planning stage I hoped that bouncing my thoughts off the internet, and anybody who stumbles across them would help me to work out how to do it in a way that was right for us.

Now we're wed I hope I have a little wisdom to share, and if not wisdom at least experience. Reading wise words from a whole load of clever people kept me on the straight and narrow through the wedding planning. I hope this can do the same for somebody, and I would love to hear anything you have to share, wise or otherwise!

Why 'An unexpected wedding' ?

I wrote a little bit of an explanation as to how this blog got its name here. I think the name also conveys something of my attitude to weddings in general; they just arn't expected any more. The place of marriage in our society has changed, and I think that is what has allowed me, albeit somewhat reluctantly at first, to embrace marriage. I'm really excited about making our marriage awesome, and being part of a generation who isn't expected to marry has allowed me to feel this way. We're doing this consciously and purposefully because we want to nurture our relationship, and I think that has surprised some people. So here's to making conscious choices to better our world, and to starting the revolution at home.
